The challenge
Traditional workplace drug and alcohol programs are paper based, slow, labour intensive and weak on privacy. A donor signs a paper consent, a collector completes a paper chain of custody form, a sample goes to a laboratory, a result comes back by email, and a Medical Review Officer reviews it somewhere in between. Every handover is a place where the record can be lost or challenged.

Who uses it
Employers running their own programs, collection agencies, laboratories, Medical Review Officers and registered training organisations each get a role specific view of the same record. A collector never sees another customer’s program. An employer sees the outcome it is entitled to, not the underlying clinical detail.
Privacy
Drug and alcohol testing information is health information, and therefore sensitive information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
